TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
This letter is being written to endorse the application to establish a Pop Warner
Football Program in the Torrey Pines High School community.
A lack of sufficient player numbers in the early 1980's forced this area to abandon
our local program and join forces with the San Dieguito organization. Unfortunately,
that meant commuting to Encinitas for practice and games, an obstacle that was
difficult for some to overcome. The number of participating youngsters from this
area was reduced even more.
Things have changed in our community, and the interest in football is at an all-time
high. In the past two years we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of
students coming out for our school teams. For example: our normal number of varsity
players was consistently around 45, it was 62 last year and will be 70 this season;
our junior varsity team would usually suit up 35, they are now at 55 and rising; and
our freshman numbers have risen from 55 to 90 or more. In fact, we are now seriously
considering the addition of a second Frosh team in order to meet the needs of our
entering students.
With the increased interest and participation at the high school level it has become
apparent that there is also a big need for a local Pop Warner program. We are very
fortunate to have a group of parents who have seen the need, and are willing to take
the responsibility of making this dream come true. They are dedicated, experienced,
and ready to begin operating in 2002 with your blessing. We have pledged our
complete support to this group, and will work with them in every way possible should
their proposal meet your approval.
Please do not hesitate to call if you wish any further information from us regarding
our support of this proposal.
Sincerely,
Ed Burke
Head Football Coach
